About

The rugby diet aims to give you the tools to train with more intensity, perform better on the pitch and improve your health and wellbeing along the way. We’ll provide you with recipe ideas, information on what supplements you should or shouldn’t be taking all and what to eat and when.

Hi, I’m Sean and I’m the author of therugbydiet.com. I hope to make this the website I wish I had access to when I was playing rugby.

I’m sadly retired now, too many injuries and riddled with Rheumatoid Arthritis!! But I remember when I was playing my idea of a balanced pre game meal was a good old fashioned English Breakfast. My father would say, “it’s got proteins, carbs and fats- perfect”. Now I think we all know that it wasn’t perfect and to be honest my performance levels were hit and miss. I’d have the game of my one week and feel lethargic the other week. It wasn’t my fitness letting me down- I was always one of the fittest in the team. No it was my preparation and in particular my diet.

Since then I have done a degree in Nutrition and Physical Activity, a certificate in Sport and Exercise Nutrition, a gym instructor qualification and a tonne of my own research on performance nutrition as a hobby. I’m also a public health professional and a Public Health MSc student which means research is my daily life and I’m able to disseminate complex information in simple terms.

I hope this website helps to improve your performance on the rugby pitch and helps to improve your health and wellbeing.
